Last week WWE released a number of wrestlers and there were some surprising names on the list. Many fans were shocked to see that Dakota Kai got cut as Kai was previously released in 2022 only to be brought back a few months later. When Kai returned to WWE at SummerSlam in 2022, she aligned herself with Bayley and Iyo Sky. Collectively they later became known as Damage CTRL.
Bryan Alvarez recently discussed Dakota Kai’s WWE release on Wrestling Observer Live and noted that Damage CTRL is unofficially done as a group. It was also noted that Asuka and Kairi Sane may continue to work as a tag team.
“Dakota Kai was probably the biggest surprise, I would say. The story there is – and I don’t know if this is official – but I was told unofficially that Damage CTRL’s done. The group is done.”
“That probably means maybe Asuka and Kairi might come back as a tag team and IYO’s obviously a big singles star and maybe they just figured that Dakota, she’s not gonna be at the level of an IYO, she doesn’t have a partner, we don’t do a six-woman division so she got cut. But that one is surprising.”
There’s currently no word on what Dakota Kai’s next move will be, but following her release she issued a statement on social media and said that she is far from done.
Stay tuned for updates.
