Back in 2022, Tony Khan announced that he had purchased Ring of Honor and ROH World Championship has changed hands a few times since then. Last week Chris Jericho defeated Mark Briscoe to win the ROH World Championship for the second time in his career.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that with ROH in negotiations for a TV deal the idea is that Chris Jericho as ROH World Champion would be more beneficial to whomever the company is negotiating with than almost anyone on the roster.
If Tony Khan is trying to sell the Ring of Honor brand the feeling is that Jericho as the face of the brand would mean more during a period of negotiations than another name like Mark Briscoe, Kyle Fletcher, Konosuke Takeshita, Will Ospreay or Swerve Strickland. Long term that’s not the case, but it’s being said that this decision was made for the brand for this specific period.
Negotiations are reportedly close for a Ring of Honor TV deal and TruTV has been rumored as they’re transitioning to a sports channel in primetime and will need content.
