Originally Becky Lynch was set to face Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series on Sunday, but Becky was pulled from the match after she was injured during a multi-woman brawl on Raw last week.
Becky picked Charlotte Flair to be her replacement, and even though Charlotte lost the match via DQ, she got a lot of people talking when she destroyed Ronda Rousey. Charlotte attacked Rousey with a kendo stick, and a chair, and she left the Baddest Woman on the Planet a bloody mess before she walked to the back.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE officials wanted to get Charlotte over, because it is thought that she’s become cold following her feud with Becky Lynch, which is why they booked the angle where she destroyed Rousey.
Becky and Ronda are both already over, so the idea was to get Charlotte going again.
It was recently reported that current plans call for Becky Lynch to face Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania because she was pulled from Survivor Series, but at some point Ronda will be looking to get revenge on Charlotte and there’s speculation that a triple threat match could be set up for the big event.
Regardless of where things go from here, the whole idea of the post-match beat down was to get Charlotte over in order to make her look like a viable opponent for Ronda Rousey.
