In a few weeks the Royal Rumble pay-per-view will air live on the WWE Network, and the event will put a few of the most important pieces in place as we head out on to the Road to WrestleMania.
The men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches will without a doubt be two of the most anticipated contests on the card, and earlier this week it was announced on Main Event that Asuka would defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Becky Lynch at the PPV.
However, WWE later had Paige post a tweet saying that she tried to make one last match before losing her position as General Manager, but the powers that be wouldn’t let it happen, so the match was pulled.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plan was for the company to announce Asuka vs. Becky Lynch on SmackDown Live this week, then for some reason a decision was made to revamp the card.
Main Event was taped before Raw, so it appears that the company forgot to pull the announcement from the show after changing plans, and it aired anyway.
It’s possible that Asuka vs. Becky Lynch could still end up on the Royal Rumble card, but that remains to be seen.
