Ricochet has been the talk of the wrestling world over the last few days as he responded to a tweet from a fan criticizing his acting skills with a tweet of his own which said, “I’m glad you got MS.” The former AEW National Champion received a lot of backlash for the tweet before he eventually deleted it and issued an apology.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful is reporting that he’s been told neither AEW nor Warner Bros. Discovery made Ricochet apologize. AEW officials reportedly told him after that it was the right thing to do.
Dave Meltzer recently discussed the situation on Wrestling Observer Radio, and he noted that it was a friend who reached out to Ricochet and encouraged him to take the tweet down.
“What ended up happening was, one of his friends called him and said, ‘You know, you really should take the tweet down.’ So, he took the tweet down, and upon thinking about it, he then apologized. Nobody forced his apology or anything like that. He decided to apologize and he did.”
When Bryan Alvarez asked why no one in AEW reached out to Ricochet to ask about the tweet, Dave Meltzer said, “He did not get anything negative from AEW, no.”
Following the controversy with Ricochet, his wife Samantha Irvin deactivated her Twitter account and also shared a disturbing message she received from a fan.
As of this writing AEW has yet to publicly comment on the situation. Ricochet was not featured on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite in Fresno, CA.
