John Cena officially retired from in-ring competition when he was defeated by Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event, but Cena is set to make his WWE return sooner than later. Earlier this week it was officially announced that Cena will be at WrestleMania as he’s set to host the show this year.

WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select is reporting that John Cena hosting WrestleMania was not in the plans when Cena retired from in-ring competition back in December.

According to the report Cena learned of the plans back in February, and he agreed to it. The 17 time champion had agreed to a new deal with WWE that didn’t include in-ring wrestling. The move to add John Cena to the show as a host was done to boost ticket sales for WrestleMania 42.

WrestleMania 42 will air live from Allegiant Stadium on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19, 2026 and the current card can be seen below.
