Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble last weekend and many fans expected him to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, but that doesn’t appear to be the direction moving forward. On the latest episode of SmackDown, Cody told Roman that he wasn’t coming for him at WrestleMania. The Rock then made his big return to seemingly set up a match with The Tribal Chief on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
Fightful Select reports that Cody Rhodes was informed as of Friday that WWE would be moving forward with plans for The Rock vs. Roman Reigns. It was noted that Cody knew about the decision ahead of him traveling to SmackDown. By that time the talent for the WrestleMania 40 press conference in Las Vegas had been booked, including The Rock, but his involvement with the event wasn’t clear.
When asked if the change in plans was made to divert attention away from the Vince McMahon lawsuit sources claimed that The Rock was pushing for the match with Roman Reigns before the lawsuit was filed.
