When Bobby Roode’s Glorious music hit on SmackDown Live the Barclays Center erupted in cheers and song. But he was debuting against a heel like Aiden English. This put him in a babyface role on the roster which was different than his portrayal in NXT.
Though some were just dismissing Bobby’s babyface debut on WWE’s main roster as a one-time thing for a “Bizzaro World” SummerSlam crowd, his good guy status might just stick.
“They might as well [have Bobby Roode as a babyface] because if he would have debuted as a heel he would have killed whatever babyface,” Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio. “Let’s say they put him in with Chad Gable, he would have murdered Chad Gable. So at least when they put him in there with Aiden English it’s another heel, and again — [Roode] could turn down the line.”
“The problem with him is well it’s not a problem — if they want him as a heel he’s gotta ditch the music because that’s total babyface music for life. So when it comes time for him to be a heel I think what he should do is just say ‘I hate this music, it sucks.’ And people would be so pissed at him that they couldn’t sing that music and I think at that point he’ll be a really good heal. But not with that music.”
“For right now again, he might as well be a babyface. John Cena left — they got an open spot. I mean what babyface do they got? They got Nakamura and Randy Orton the next guy down is probably, AJ of course so those are their three. But yeah, it seems like they got a spot to fill.”
