The WWE Superstar Shake-Up is a yearly tradition of freshening up the roster and moving people around to create new possibilities for stories. There are always likely to be a few choices that some people might not prefer as well like splitting up popular teams or moving someone off of a brand they’ve become very much a part of.
Bryan Alvarez addressed some wild rumors floating around the Internet Wrestling Community about the upcoming Superstar Shake-Up. Nobody said they knew what was going to happen, because we never really do until it takes place but it certainly looks like there could be some major shaking up this year.
“As you should know by now all of the internet people take speculation and they turn it into news stories and they attribute to myself and Dave [Meltzer]” Bryan Alvarez said on Wrestling Observer Live. “Dave never said it was a certainty that Miz or Alexa or anyone else was moving what he said was in the past before the draft they will often beat up people and essentially write them out of the storyline because when they move to the other show it’s a new slate.”
That being said, Bryan Alvarez is correct because WWE has a history of booking things this way. After all, it can get messy to change someone’s show when they’re still heavily involved in another story. They’ve done it before but it can get clumsy and someone finds themselves as a lame duck so to speak on their new brand until they get their old feud out of the way on their old brand.
Alexa Bliss and The Miz are top Superstars and they just lost their titles at WrestleMania. The next night on Raw, they lost again so it would make it look like there’s something going on. The Miz does have his rematch against Seth Rollins at Backlash, but anything can happen, especially where the WWE Superstar Shape-Up is concerned.
It was also later speculated that the Superstar Shake-Up might also give WWE a chance to split up Absolution because Paige just retired and isn’t expected to be back for a long time. Mandy Rose could go one way and Sonya Deville would go another to find themselves as singles competitors once more.
But it is important that everything is speculation at this point because the Superstars don’t even know if they’re going to be switched around until their name is called in most instances because Vince McMahon likes a genuine reaction.
There’s no better reaction than those they got at the WWE Performance Center so there’s likely to be some more people coming up soon as well from NXT if history has told us anything. But it’s also important to remember that anything can happen in WWE because it all boils down to what Vince McMahon wants to do.
