Have you ever wondered what you would do if you met your favorite WWE Superstars? One South African Uber driver certainly didn’t know what to do and we have the video evidence to prove it.
WWE’s Red Brand is currently on tour in South Africa and they had a great time in Cape Town and plan to see as much of the country as they can while entertaining for the remainder of the tour.
Titus O’Neal, Bayley, Sasha Banks, and Seth Rollins were traveling together in South Africa and when they called for an Uber the three Superstars had no idea what kind of reaction they would receive when they got in the car.
Their driver was obviously a huge WWE fan as he marked out hardcore so much to the point where I wonder if he was suitable to drive in the first place. It would stand to reason that having Titus O’Neil, Seth Rollins, and Sasha Banks in your car would be somewhat of a distraction. He asked where Roman Reigns was but the Big Dog was apparently taking a nap. He also had an interesting bone to pick with Sami Zayn.
This just goes to further illustrate WWE’s worldwide reach. WWE rose to their current position by pillaging a territory system and getting their own show on cable which created a national audience. Soon an entire nation was aware of WWF’s Superstars and every other promotion seemed to be lesser for some reason. Since then WWE has kept up with the times and utilized every advantage they could to spread their product and are now on a global scale.
It was noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the term “global localization” is something WWE is putting a lot of interest into. This means programming geared to cater to a specific demographic in markets around the world. It is a piece of jargon their marking department has picked up on and you could probably expect to hear it a lot because WWE has asked for a trademark on the phrase.
As WWE takes over markets on a global level they want to remain a presence even if the company can only tour a market once every year or so. Therefore it is important to make sure that programming feels like it is geared toward their audience which is the idea.
Whether “global localization” worked on this South African Uber driver or not is another matter. But he sure looked happy to give his WWE Superstars a ride. Let’s just hope they gave him a nice tip, even though they probably didn’t need to.
