Wade Barrett had an interesting career with WWE. He debuted in 2010 during the first season of NXT and he later made a much bigger impact when he became the leader of The Nexus.
Barrett was immediately thrust into the spotlight as he feuded with top stars such as John Cena and Randy Orton, and it seemed like it was only a matter of time before WWE gave him a World Title run, but it never happened. Nexus fizzled out and Wade Barrett struggled to find his way back to the main event scene in the years that followed.
After a few years of working as Wade Barrett, he decided to switch up his character and he became Bad News Barrett. The Bad News Barrett character got off to a slow start, but eventually fans latched onto it, and as soon as the gimmick started getting over, WWE had Barrett win King of the Ring and they repackaged him as King Barrett.
Eventually Wade Barrett decided that he’d had enough fun with WWE and he moved on. In 2016 he parted ways with the company and he has yet to return to the ring.
It remains to be seen if Wade Barrett will ever wrestle again, but if he does he has a new name ready to go.
Barrett revealed on Instagram that he’s been booked for WrestleCon in Orlando, FL on March 31st and April 1st and he will be using the name Fake News Bennett.
Unfortunately Fake News Bennett won’t be wrestling at the event, but if you’ll be in attendance you can purchase tickets for a meet and greet with the former Intercontinental Champion by clicking here.
