When it comes to WWE there are only so many stars who can work at the top of the card, and after he debuted with the company it didn’t take long for Kurt Angle to become a main eventer.
When Kurt Angle first started working with the company he was still learning the ropes so to speak, and Vince McMahon noticed that the TV was picking it up when Angle would call spots in the ring.
During a recent episode of the Kurt Angle Show the WWE Hall of Famer talked about his approach to calling spots in the ring, and he noted that Vince McMahon told him to tone it down.
“Vince McMahon (laughs). He told me, yeah. He said, ‘Listen, you’ve got to tone it down; the TV is picking up on you calling the spots,” Angle said. “And I said, ‘Vince, I can’t help it. I want my opponent to know where he is going in any particular moment.’ So, I called the match, not only for my opponent but for myself too, and I’m pretty loud with it. I’ve always been that way. I never changed (laughs); even though Vince McMahon talked to me a couple more times, I still did it. I just felt being safe more than sorry was a better choice.”
Angle went on to say that some wrestlers would act like they were talking trash while calling out their spots, but he could never adjust to that because he had to think about what he wanted to say.
