WWE had their quarterly investor’s conference today and Vince McMahon had some very interesting things to say about the upcoming plans for the cruiserweight division. Although reports seemed to indicate recently that Vinny Mac hasn’t been too happy about the cruiserweights on Raw, he said that WWE is excited about the future of the division.
McMahon stated that there are plans for 205 Live merchandising, apparel, and even new revenue from a live tour.
This greatly contradicts the previous reports that WWE is shying away from the cruiserweight division, but the plan might still be to separate them from Raw and create more of an exclusive brand.
Vince gave no timetable of an eventual 205 Live tour, but he did say that the long-term goal was to spin it off and make it its own entity entirely.
With Neville’s transition over to 205 Live and the possibility of Austin Aries joining the division very soon, it is easy to see how WWE is laying down the building blocks to make something new and exciting out of the division. Vince said that 205 Live will eventually be similar to NXT in many respects but did not give any more details than that simple comparison.
McMahon also said that there are “big plans” for the UK fan-base as well. Whether he was speaking about the rumored United Kingdom television show or simply more touring overseas wasn’t made entirely clear.
