Vince McMahon Reportedly Had Insane WrestleMania Plans For James Ellsworth

James Ellsworth was released from WWE earlier this week, and fans all over the world are still trying to cope with the fact that he won’t be a regular on WWE programming going forward. Ellsworth always seemed to make something out of nothing, and he exceeded expectations in every segment he participated in.

Recently he found himself on the wrong end of some backlash from the SmackDown women’s division, and he was continuously getting beat up by the ladies of the blue brand on WWE’s European tour.

Ellsworth recently faced off against Becky Lynch on SmackDown Live, and it appears that WWE had big WrestleMania plans for Ellsworth to face another member of the women’s division at WrestleMania.

On the latest episode of Wrestling Sheet Radio, James McKenna reported that Vince McMahon pitched an idea for James Ellsworth to face Charlotte for the Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 34.

“The goal was to get to Charlotte vs. Ellsworth at Mania for the Women’s Championship. How they were going to get there is a much wilder tale. We’re talking about as recent as August, these were pretty much plans they had in place. Long story short, it was to make Ellsworth trans.”

It was also noted that at one point the plan was for Ellsworth to say that he was transitioning into a woman, which is why he could compete for the Women’s Championship, and the idea of him winning it at the Royal Rumble was also discussed.

Obviously this isn’t going to happen now because Ellsworth has been released, but Vince McMahon was reportedly talked out of the idea. Apparently the negative backlash to James Ellsworth getting involved in the first ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match was another factor in WWE dropping the angle.

With how far women’s wrestling has come over the last few years, it seems that this would have been a big step back for the Women’s Revolution as a whole.

Where James Ellsworth goes from here remains to be seen, but at this point in time it doesn’t look like he’ll be competing for the Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 34.
