WWE recently announced that WrestleMania 34 will be held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in 2018, and the company held a press conference earlier in the week to hype up the event.
Vince McMahon spoke to NOLA.com about the decision to bring WrestleMania back to New Orleans, and he also talked a little bit about playing a character on his own TV show. Vince McMahon himself is one of the most infamous characters to ever appear on WWE programming, but nowadays Vince McMahon appearances on Raw or SmackDown are few and far between. When asked if he misses appearing on camera Vince made it clear that he’s happy working behind the scenes.
“God, no. That was a chore. I enjoyed it, but it just ate up so much time personally, and I couldn’t produce and direct, which is what I love to do. I love to help create new stars and tweak this and help them grow here. I can’t do that as a talent because you have to have your head wrapped around that. I’ve done both in the past, but it’s not what I prefer to do. It takes an extraordinary amount of energy to be able to do that. Trying to do both is difficult. It really is.”
Vince McMahon turned 71 years old on August 24th of 2016, but even though he’s getting up there in age it doesn’t seem like Vince McMahon has any interest in stepping away from the business. When asked if he plans on slowing down Vince had the following to say:
“No. No, never. This is not work for me. I never go to work. Ever. Every aspect of the business, whether it’s working with the talent or the writing staff, even on occasion working with the legal guys, it’s all a big family. I never go to work.”
Fans who are hoping to see Vince McMahon retire definitely shouldn’t hold their breath. Although Triple H has gained more power over the past few years, but according to Triple H Vince has only been working longer hours as time goes on.
During an appearance on Talk Is Jericho in 2014 Triple H told Jericho that Vince McMahon will never retire.
“No. When he’s tired, he wants to go to the gym. It’s almost like tired is the enemy, and it makes him want to do more,” Triple H told Jericho. “He works more now, he works longer hours and he sleeps less. You’ll leave the office at nighttime and there’s nobody there, but he’s still in his office working, and then he goes downstairs and he’ll text me at 1 in the morning. He doesn’t sleep a lot. It is what he is.
Although it seems that Triple H is being groomed to take over the company someday, Triple H jokingly told Jericho that the only way he’ll be taking over is if Vince McMahon dies.
“People say all the time ‘he’s being groomed to take over.’ No I’m not. That’s only if he dies. The day he dies, apparently I take over. Unless I’m the one that killed him, I’ll go to jail.”
