Did Vince McMahon Fire The Rock On Monday Night?

We previously reported all about the antics surrounding the “Fighting With My Family” film shoot on Monday night after Raw. The Rock got in the ring and told the crowd that they were shooting a scene where Paige beat AJ Lee for the Divas Championship. Naturally, there were CM Punk chants abound. In case you haven’t heard, AJ is married to the Straight Edge Superstar.

In-between takes during the movie shoot, Rocky called Punk a couple of times and even left a voicemail for him featuring the fans inside Staples Center chanting his name. Understandably, Vince wasn’t happy about this and as Dave Meltzer so eloquently put it: “Johnson was the only guy alive who could have gotten away with it.”

This writer had a friend call him on Tuesday morning asking whether or not Vince fired Dwayne Johnson after he called Punk, the reply given was, “If I hear anything it’ll be on the site as soon as I do.”

Of course, Rocky wasn’t fired.

The reason this article exists is that this writer had a second friend text him today asking the same question: “Was The Rock fired?”

A lot of thought was given as to why this rumor is out there and several strange ideas were batted around the office. The conclusion that we came up with was that people thought The Rock was fired because Vince McMahon came out on Monday and said to The Rock, “You’re fired!”

But it all happened before the show even started.

Rocky appeared before the show went live on Monday Night. Dave Meltzer says that it was partly to avoid people chanting for Rocky during the show and of course, it was also to promote the shoot and get people to stick around for the filming afterwards.

During this opening segment, The Rock spoke to the live crowd and said that “Fighting With My Family” is a passion project of his and he’s so invested in the movie partly because he comes from a wrestling family himself.

Johnson said that Vince Vaughn is in the movie, and he’s in the movie (he’ll be playing himself, of course). Then Rocky said John Cena is in the movie and the fans booed. He then said Cena isn’t in it because they wanted to make a good movie.

Rocky made several jokes about how the fans boo Roman Reigns and John Cena and purposely got the crowd to boo so they could capture crowd reactions on film.

Vince McMahon then came out on the ramp and jokingly fired The Rock right before Raw went live.

Therefore yes guys, Vince McMahon did fire Dwayne Johnson on Monday… but it was a total joke.

It wasn’t until much later on in the night that Vince probably wished he had actually fired Rock when he called The Second City Savior while inside his ring.
