When it comes to the tag team division in WWE there’s no denying that The Usos are one of the best teams going right now and have been one of the best teams in the division for some time. However, it took them a long time to get to the top as their run with WWE had a humble beginning.
Freddie Prinze Jr. worked with WWE from 2008 to 2012 and during a recent episode of his Wrestling With Freddie podcast he talked a little bit about working with The Usos. Freddie explained that he had written a segment for The Usos, but ultimately the segment was rejected by Vince McMahon who only gave The Usos a few lines.
“I had a segment with them when I worked in the company, just one… I had written them a little bit to see if they could act, and they did great. It wasn’t a lot but it was enough. I submitted the video for approval and it got denied.”
“So I went to talk to Vince and he was like, ‘They’re not doing good on the mic.’ I was like, ‘They did better than everyone else. I thought they did great, it felt real.’ Then he goes, ‘They weren’t big enough.’ And I go like, ‘Man don’t let them be big, let them, be real. They’re looking out for their cousin. Let this be legit.’ Then he goes, ‘Alright, they can have one line each.’ So it went from this cool little speech that Jey had and Jimmy finished to two lines.”
The Usos have certainly come a long way since then as the team recently main evented WrestleMania, and they’re also key figures in The Bloodline storyline which has become WWE’s biggest angle in years.
