Over the last few years the women’s division in WWE has come a long way, but back in 2013 many of the female performers on the roster were still working hard to establish themselves. AJ Lee found success and she went on to win the Divas Championship, but unfortunately for AJ there was a lack of opponents for her to work with.
Former WWE star Summer Rae recently did a virtual signing for Golden Ring Collectibles, and she noted that AJ Lee asked to work with her multiple times. However, her request was denied by Vince McMahon himself.
“AJ did ask to work me multiple times and they didn’t give it to her. AJ was kind of working the same people over and over, and we had one match on “Superstars” or something. Because I was so tall, I could base her for a lot of her lucha and high flying stuff. She just really liked working with me, and she didn’t think I had a shot, like I wasn’t given a shot. She asked Vince and she asked a lot of people, and they just said ‘No.’”
AJ Lee wrestled her final match on Raw in 2015 the night after WrestleMania 31 and she announced her retirement shortly after. She has yet to return, but has worked for WOW as an executive producer and color commentator.
