The Royal Rumble pay-per-view has come and gone, and even though the event did feature some big names and huge returns, it did not feature the return of The Undertaker.
After Taker returned to Raw 25 and cut a vague promo last week, fans were hoping that maybe we would get some clarification on his status at the Royal Rumble, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
PWInsider is reporting that The Undertaker was backstage for the Royal Rumble event on Sunday night, but he was there to support his wife Michelle McCool who wrestled in the first ever women’s Royal Rumble match.
It was recently reported that WWE officials are hoping to book a big match for Undertaker at WrestleMania 34, but Taker apparently gave no real indication as to what what his plans are for the event while he was backstage.
After the Royal Rumble, the WWE 24 – WrestleMania 33 special aired on the WWE Network and it showed very candid footage of The Undertaker out of character. After he was defeated by Roman Reigns, Taker was shown backstage contemplating the end of his career and whether that was his last match, and he commented that he doesn’t know what the future holds.
Pat Patterson, Nikolai Volkoff and several NXT talents were also backstage, but the NXT talents who weren’t used left after they found out they weren’t needed.
Paige was also backstage but she didn’t appear on camera.
