2017 was definitely a rocky year for Impact Wrestling. The company changed its name to Global Force Wrestling, and then changed it back to Impact Wrestling, and in the process several stars came and went from the company.
The Hardys, Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis, James Storm and Drew McIntyre are just a few of the names that left Impact in 2017, and now it seems that a few more names could be leaving soon as well.
Former TNA World Heavyweight Champions EC3, Bobby Lashley and Eddie Edwards all have contracts that are set to expire, and with Impact cutting costs there’s been speculation that the company could be offering them less money than they’re making right now, which could potentially lead to them parting ways with the company.
Impact has been good to all three stars, but there’s no denying that Bobby Lashley has unfinished business in WWE, and it’s probably safe to say that EC3 might want the chance to prove he’s more than just Derrick Bateman.
On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about the possibility of Lashley and EC3 signing with WWE, and he noted that it all depends on what kind of deals they are offered, but he’s under the impression EC3 WWE bound.
“It depends on what offers they get. My impression is that EC3 is going to go to WWE. With Lashley, there was a lot of bitterness when he left on both sides. So I don’t know about going back there just to go back there. I’m pretty sure he would, but I know Michael Hayes is still there. But it’s been years and years, and they say time heals all wounds and everything.”
“Obviously there was a lot of heat with the way he left, and the heat should be on them, not him. But that’s not how it goes. It was a very bitter thing. If he was willing to go to WWE, and they were willing to have him, I’m pretty sure that’s where he ends up. I don’t see him in NJPW. I don’t think Ring of Honor is the best place for Bobby Lashley.”
Meltzer also noted that Eddie Edwards will likely have a lot of options between NXT, ROH and Pro Wrestling NOAH.
