After Johnny Gargano and Andrade Cien Almas’s incredible match at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia, Tommaso Ciampa showed up and assaulted his former #DIY partner with a crutch. It was a brutal display and garnered extreme heat from the live crowd in Philly. But as it turns out, that might not necessarily mean a comeback is on the way just yet for the Psycho Killer.

“The Ciampa thing, I don’t know he looked like he was still limping pretty good when he came out,” Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio. “It almost felt like it was a little bit on the early side but I guess they just felt like this was the time to do it — and it was after you do this great fantastic match and you lose and your wife’s there and you know, it was the time.”

Bryan Alvarez pointed out the fact that Ciampa was still wearing a heavy knee brace which he was. Therefore he might not be back imminently. WWE can always put a knee brace on someone and make them sell their injury. However, it doesn’t seem like this is the case for Ciampa.

After all, Tommaso Ciampa really messed up his knee. I was actually at the NXT house show where it happened and it wasn’t pretty at all.

As soon as Ciampa landed his leg went different directions, the dreaded “X” was thrown up by the referee, and the match was called off. He still wrestled an insane ladder match three days later at NXT TakeOver: Chicago against Authors Of Pain and even turned heel after the match. But his knee was already injured going into the big show in the Windy City.

Tommaso Ciampa had nothing to say after his brutal assault on Johnny Gargano and remained silent concerning his injury status as well while he was swarmed by way more reporters than we’ve ever seen backstage at even a main roster event. It looks like only time will tell where this is heading but it’s likely to include the two former members of #DIY colliding in the ring once more.
