Former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann was arrested over the weekend following an altercation with his wife after an independent wrestling event, and he was charged with Battery and False Imprisonment. Swann has since been suspended from WWE indefinitely, and the company released the following statement yesterday:
“WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Rich Swann has been indefinitely suspended following his arrest.”
PWInsider is now reporting that Rich Swann is no longer being held at the Alachua County Jail in Gainesville, Florida, so it appears that he’s been released. It was also noted that a judge has been assigned to Swann’s case.
At this point it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing Swann make his return to WWE programming anytime soon.
Swann has been a regular on WWE programming since the cruiserweight division was reintroduced in 2016, appearing on Monday Night Raw and the WWE Network show 205 Live.
If convicted of False Imprisonment, Rich Swann could face five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. If Swann is convicted of Battery, he could face penalties of up to one year in jail or 12 months probation and a $1,000 fine.
Stay tuned for updates regarding his status.
