Recently it was reported that WWE issued a new edict banning talents from monetizing their Twitter and Instagram accounts, and now the company has clarified their stance on the issue.
The topic was discussed on Wrestling Observer Radio recently and it was believed that talents could not use hashtags or photos that promote products.
Now F4Wonline.com is reporting that under the new policy, which WWE says is similar to the policy put in place a few months ago regarding Twitch and Cameo, talents are banned from monetizing Twitter and Instagram by working with third parties.
It was noted that an example such as taking a photo in front of a car or restaurant would not be a punishable offense unless the talent was making money from a third party.
WWE is moving forward with the idea that since they contractually own the likeness to their talents, that includes social media accounts, regardless of whether or not the social media accounts are under wrestling names or real names.
It was previously reported by Wrestling Inc. that talents will be given a warning after the first violation, followed by a fine for the second violation, followed by a suspension for a third violation.
