The wrestling world is talking about WrestleMania 40 as we’re getting closer and closer to WrestleMania season kicking off. Recently a report from Sports Illustrated got people talking as it claimed that Gunther was the favorite to win the Royal Rumble then go on to challenge Seth Rollins for his belt, and that WWE was planning a Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk match for WrestleMania 40. It’s worth noting that a statement has since been issued recanting the story.
Fightful Select is reporting that several sources noted the changes to WrestleMania plans were “news to them.” It’s being reported that as of last weekend Seth Rollins vs. CM Punk was the plan for WrestleMania and Rollins was hopeful he would be good to go for the match despite his injuries.
As of Monday, CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes was not planned for WrestleMania, but it’s being reported Punk vs. Rhodes is a match that could happen “at any given time.”
CM Punk will be in action on Saturday when he competes in the 30 man Royal Rumble match. As of right now there’s currently no word on specific plans regarding who will be winning the Royal Rumble.
Stay tuned for updates.
