Dolph Ziggler won the United States Championship back at Clash of Champions when he managed to pin former champion Baron Corbin in a triple threat match that also included former NXT Champion, Bobby Roode.
Ziggler then seemingly relinquished the championship two days later on SmackDown Live when he left that title in the middle of the ring and walked out of the arena. SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan announced a tournament to crown a new champion a week later when he stated that he had been unable to contact Ziggler all week.
Ziggler hasn’t been seen on WWE TV since last year and with his contract seemingly coming to an end later this year, speculation has been running riot online over the past few weeks.
According to Cagesideseats latest rumour roundup, it is expected that Dolph Ziggler will be returning at the Royal Rumble or on the SmackDown Live episode a few days later. It is thought that a new United States Champion will be crowned by then, which will give Ziggler someone to step into a feud with.
It was a strange storyline from the beginning that saw Ziggler apparently walk out of the company in defiance after he decided that the WWE Universe didn’t deserve him, so it will be interesting to see what the rest of this storyline has in store for The Showoff.
