The XFL was one of the most infamous experiments in the world of sports, and when the league folded after one season, no one ever expected Vince McMahon to make a second attempt at getting the XFL off the ground.
But that’s exactly what Vince is doing, as he announced a few months ago that the XFL will be revived, and the new season will kick off in 2020.
The Orlando Sentinel is now reporting that Allen Johnson, executive director of Orlando’s venues, has told them that Vince McMahon has proposed the idea of putting a XFL team in Orlando’s Camping World Stadium.
It’s also worth noting that the Alliance of American Football, which is set to launch in 2019, one full year ahead of the XFL, is planning on putting a team in UCF’s Spectrum Stadium.
“We were told that there is preliminary, high-level interest in Orlando and they would get back to us at a later date,” Johnson said. “They did mention in the call that they were aware of the other league (the Alliance) and felt that the Orlando market could support two teams.”
WWE has found success in the Orlando area in the past with events such as WrestleMania 28 and WrestleMania 33.
“We’re always excited about events that we can add to the great variety of events that we already have at Camping World Stadium,” Johnson says. “The XFL would be a welcome addition.”
Vince McMahon has yet to make any official announcements regarding teams for the XFL.
