Earlier this year at WrestleMania 40 the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Titles were defended in a multi-team ladder match. A-Town Down grabbed the SmackDown Tag Team Titles while Awesome Truth grabbed the Raw Tag Team Titles. Following the show the belts were rebranded as the WWE Tag Team Titles and World Tag Team Titles respectively.
In recent months the tag team titles have been defended on Raw and SmackDown, but the titles have not been featured as prominently on premium live events. According to Viper Reports of PWN tag team title defenses on premium live events are coming. However, WWE wants the feuds surrounding the titles to be built up correctly.
The idea is that premium live events are for the highest caliber feuds that carry WWE TV shows. It’s being said that the tag team division is more of a work in progress at this point in time.
Currently The Bloodline are the WWE Tag Team Champions on SmackDown and Finn Balor and JD McDonagh of The Judgment Day are the WWE World Tag Team Champions on Raw.
Stay tuned for more updates on the WWE tag team division as they become available.
