In recent weeks several title matches have been announced for WrestleMania 39 and it was made clear last Friday on SmackDown that there are several stars who want to challenge Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship on the Grandest Stage of Them All. Originally Kofi Kingston was set to compete in a fatal five way match on SmackDown to determine who will face Gunther, but he was injured during a brawl last week.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Kofi suffered an ankle injury when Drew McIntyre did a running flip dive onto several people. It’s being said that the injury was just a fluke deal, but the word is that Kofi Kingston will be out for five weeks.
There was some concern that Kofi could be out longer if he needs surgery. However, the impression based on what’s been said both privately and publicly is that Kofi Kingston won’t be needing surgery.
WWE recently confirmed that Kofi Kingston has been pulled from in-ring competition and he was replaced by Xavier Woods in the fatal five way match. This week on SmackDown it will be Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus vs. LA Knight vs. Karrion Kross vs. Xavier Woods to see who will challenge Gunther for the belt. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
