john cena

John Cena’s farewell tour kicked off this week during the big Monday Night Raw premiere on Netflix. Cena is set to finish up his in-ring career at the end of this year and many fans are hoping to see him win the WWE Championship one more time.

During his appearance on Raw, Cena teased that in order to get a title shot he will have to work his way up the ranks by either winning the Royal Rumble, or picking up a victory inside the Elimination Chamber.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that although John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes wasn’t directly teased on Raw the idea was that WWE wanted to make it clear to the audience Cena is going for his 17th WWE World Championship at WrestleMania. As of right now Cody Rhodes is currently scheduled to be John Cena’s opponent at the Show of Shows.

This match has been a long time coming for Cody Rhodes as The American Nightmare directly asked John Cena about a potential match when they crossed paths during the March 6, 2023 episode of Raw.

“What he said to me on Raw was — I was telling him if he ever does another match, I would like (to work with him), and I think you could hear him pretty well.

“He says, ‘I can’t promise that.’ I also didn’t want to make it about myself at that moment, so I just endlessly thanked him, and then he was at the Nightmare Factory a week later talking to our students.”
