Jinder Mahal defeated Shinsuke Nakamura clean at Hell In A Cell in a display which solidified him as The Modern Day Maharaja. Nakamura put forth a considerable fight even though some fans felt the performance was being held back a bit throughout the contest.
But what this WWE Championship match did was make The Khallas look very strong as all it took was one Mahal’s finishers and that was all she wrote for Shinsuke Nakamura in Detroit.
However, it is hard to argue this match did anything positive for Shinsuke Nakamura. “This did Nakamura no favors […] in theory it was supposed to be getting Jinder over,” Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio.
Then the question was posed as to who Jinder Mahal’s next challenger for the WWE Championship might be after Nakamura.
“I mean who’s the next great wrestler who can have a bad feud with Jinder to try and get him over?” Bryan Alvarez asked.
“I think it’s AJ [Styles]” Meltzer replied. “After that I guess and Corbin and Dillinger will feud over the US Title or maybe Corbin will feud with Nakamura for the US Title.”
“I don’t know, I just know that I’m done with this Jinder World Title reign” Bryan Alvarez commented, “I was done the day it started, I’m really done now.”
While Mahal might be losing support in droves, it appears he will be holding onto his WWE Championship at least until the WWE mini-tour of India. So if you’re tired of watching Jinder Mahal as WWE Champion you can either just watch Raw exclusively or you can wait until someone finally topples The Monder Day Maharaja and takes his prized championship.
AJ Styles would be a great opponent for Mahal next if WWE went that direction. Since losing the US Title to Baron Corbin it appears Tye Dillinger might step up to The Lone Wolf and keep him busy for a bit. In the meantime, it doesn’t look like there’s any better place for AJ Styles except for on the top of the card once again.
But the question still remains of what will be next for a defeated Shinsuke Nakamura from this point onward.
