It was only three short weeks ago that Tyler Bate made history by becoming the first ever WWE UK Champion at the first ever tournament held in Blackpool.
The 19-year-old also became the youngest ever WWE singles champion with the win and has since appeared at many NXT events with his United Kingdom Championship. There were rumors that he was set to be part of the Royal Rumble match, but it seems that WWE wanted to include the UK Tournament participants in NXT instead of the main roster.
This week on NXT it was announced that Bate would be defending his United Kingdom Championship against another member of Moustache Mountain, Trent Seven. The duo are currently PROGRESS Tag Team Champions and longtime friends, but Bate stated last night on NXT that they have to look past their friendship when it comes to his UK Championship.
It seems that instead of creating the British wrestling show that was speculated earlier in the year, WWE are now allowing the UK Championship to become integrated into NXT, perhaps because the ratings of the UK Tournament were not what they were expecting.
Trent and Tyler now have the chance to change many people’s opinion of British wrestling when they collide with the title on the line next Wednesday night, hopefully, this will lead to something much bigger for the UK based talents and the spin-off show can finally become a reality.
