WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event will be returning later this year as part of WWE’s new deal with NBCUniversal, and it sounds like two big matches are already planned for the show.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens for the Undisputed WWE Championship, and Gunther vs. Damian Priest for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship are both currently slated for Saturday Night’s Main Event. However, it was noted that the matches are not etched in stone.
Earlier this month Kevin Owens turned on Cody Rhodes after WWE Bad Blood when he attacked The American Nightmare outside of his tour bus. Kevin Owens later followed up by attacking Randy Orton on SmackDown, and KO is now currently off TV as part of the storyline.
Damian Priest dropped the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to Gunther at SummerSlam, but he confronted the Ring General this week on Monday Night Raw. The former champion told Gunther that he’s looking to earn a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event will air live on Saturday, December 14th on NBC and Peacock, and it’s also being reported that Jesse Ventura is expected to appear during the show.
