At the beginning of SmackDown this week The Wyatt Family music hit and the fireflies filled the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Bray slowly walked to the ring alone without Randy Orton by his side, but he had that new belt around his waist and it suited him very well.
“You deserve it” chants filled the arena for the former Husky Harris as Bray started to cut one of his brilliant promos. He referenced Sister Abigail in the past-tense to imply once again that she’s dead. Bray said that he can now say that he has “the whole damn world in my hands” and the place erupted with cheers as a smattering of people started to sing.
This writer misses the days when when Bray would lead entire crowds in a rendition of “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands.” Rumour is that creative stopped him from doing that because it was getting him over too much, which is a shame.
As soon as Bray officially welcomed us to the “Era of Wyatt,” John Cena’s music to throw a bucket of cold water on the fiery hopes of a longer promo from The Eater of Worlds.
John introduced Bray as the new WWE Champion and proposed that they get right to their championship match right now. AJ Styles’ music hit and the Phenomenal One strolled out to remind us that he never got a one-on-one rematch when he lost his title.
AJ said that Cena isn’t going to get away with line-jumping and said this was about him. The crowd was firmly behind Styles. “The Face That Runs the Place” said he wanted his rematch right away, and Daniel Bryan came out to contemplate what decision he needed to make.
In the end, Bryan booked a triple threat match instead of the planned one-on-one match.
But, John Cena and AJ Styles still aren’t getting their one-on-one matches. Oh well, wrestling is funny like that.
