There’s no denying that D-Generation X will go down as one of the most infamous groups in the history of professional wrestling, and there’s also no denying that Chyna helped to make the group what it was.
Chyna was an integral part of D-Generation X, and she first made her debut on WWE programming working as Triple H’s bodyguard. During Vice’s recent Chyna documentary her introduction to DX was revisited in a clip where Chyna said that she immediately clicked with Triple H and Shawn Michaels when they discussed the idea of working together.
It seems that Chyna, Triple H and Shawn Michaels were on the same page from the start, but apparently Vince McMahon wasn’t as excited about the idea of Triple H recruiting Chyna to be his bodyguard. In the documentary Triple H spoke candidly about pitching the idea to the Chairman of the Board, and he noted that it wasn’t easy.
“When her role as my bodyguard was first being brought up to Vince it was heavily resisted. ‘No one’s gonna believe in that,’ and ‘no one’s gonna buy it.’ Shawn and I had to push really hard to get that done,” Triple H said.
In the end it seems that the push was worth the effort as Chyna did add something unique to the faction, and D-Generation X went on to have a Hall of Fame worthy career as a group.
