It’s been an interesting year for Triple H as he’s gone through a series of major life events. It was announced last year that he had to undergo emergency surgery do to a cardiac event, and a few months ago he officially announced his retirement from in-ring competition.
Triple H is now retired from in-ring competition, but during a recent interview with Ariel Helwani of BT Sport he explained that he was originally going to work with Gable Steveson at WrestleMania.
“I was going to do something with Gable Stevenson and try to get him launched and get going,” Triple H revealed. “When they told me I was like, ‘Okay.'”
According to Triple H, Vince McMahon asked him to be part of the show and said, “I need the attraction — you can do whatever you want to do.”
Ultimately the match didn’t end up happening as Triple H instead left his boots in the ring at WrestleMania 38. The Game will never compete again and it sounds like he’s ok with that.
“Man, I rode it till the wheels fell off. I’m done, I’m good. Did everything I wanted to do and then some.'”
