A lot happened in WWE last year as Vince McMahon retired and Triple H took over WWE creative. WWE also unified the two biggest belts in the company when Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania to become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. Since then WWE has had only one top champion and there’s been a lot of speculation regarding when, or if WWE will split the belts up again.
WrestleVotes recently spoke to GiveMeSport about the title situation and it was noted that there was never a plan when Roman Reigns won both belts under Vince McMahon’s regime. However, the goal is to have two titles by SummerSlam.
“This is the final mess, and you really can call it a mess. This is the final obstacle and the new team is working to overcome that. There was never a plan when Roman Reigns won the titles a year ago. Triple H was handed this mess, By SummerSlam, there’s gonna be two titles.”
Roman Reigns is currently set to defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39, and Rhodes recently discussed the idea of management splitting up the belts if he wins. One way or another it will be interesting to see how things play out with the title situation between WrestleMania and SummerSlam.
