CM Punk is the talk of the wrestling world at the moment as he took shots at Colt Cabana, Adam Page and the AEW EVPs during the post-show media scrum following All Out. It’s also been reported that Punk and Ace Steel were involved in a physical altercation with The Elite after Punk spoke at the post-show media scrum.
Fightful Select is reporting that a top WWE Superstar said they believe the CM Punk they knew years ago is now being highlighted. Another talent said that if the situation is a work then it’s the most elaborate work they’ve ever seen, and a third talent said, “If this Punk press scrum thing is a work.. bravo.”
Two of the talents reportedly contacted Fightful before Raw to say that they learned individually that it wasn’t a work and they were surprised it happened. There was also confusion regarding why Tony Khan didn’t comment and follow up on Punk bashing the AEW EVPs.
A talent who worked with Punk in the past said that you can’t expect a lot of people in WWE to say positive things about Punk and added, “I feel like he’s trying to run things there, and it looks like he’s doing it.”
A longtime WWE main eventer said they don’t believe CM Punk is the leader he made himself out to be calling his actions unprofessional and Punk himself “selfish and arrogant.” Several people including people who worked with Punk on FOX echoed the same sentiment.
A WWE official said that power had to be asserted to let everyone know these actions aren’t tolerable and added that these situations don’t happen as often in WWE because talent knew they wouldn’t be welcomed back if they did that while Vince McMahon was there.
Another top WWE name reportedly talked about both parties putting their issues aside to make money and said, “none of them have business talking about drawing houses or losing fans or interest. They have a good show but this is still the biggest piece of business they’ve done and they have to capitalize.”
As of this writing no one from AEW has publicly commented on the situation. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
