For decades The Undertaker’s match at WrestleMania was one of the biggest attractions on the show, and at WrestleMania 32 he faced off against the one and only Shane McMahon. Ultimately The Undertaker defeated Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 32, but it sounds like he almost had an entirely different opponent at the Showcase of the Immortals.
During a recent interview with WrestleSphere, Kevin Owens revealed that he was originally considered for a match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32. However, plans shifted due to Shane McMahon’s return.
“I think things just shifted and that was the year that Shane McMahon returned, so obviously at the time, my standing in the company compared to Shane McMahon coming back after all those years, the thought was probably ‘Shane McMahon versus The Undertaker is a huge match.
I know it was on the table and it was heavily discussed and it would have been amazing. My first WrestleMania, to be in there with The Undertaker, would have been sweet. It didn’t happen, but I’ve been in the ring with him. I was actually in the ring with him in the main event of a Madison Square Garden show, so I got to do that with him which was really cool.”
Instead of facing The Undertaker, Kevin Owens defended his Intercontinental Championship in a ladder match that was won by Zack Ryder. This year Owens will facing off against Randy Orton and Logan Paul in a triple threat match for the United States Championship.
