In the world of WWE sometimes the road to the top is not always a linear path. Last year it seemed that Austin Theory was untouchable when he was aligned with Vince McMahon on screen, but after Vince announced his retirement Austin’s status as a top star came into question.
Last summer Austin Theory won the Money in the Bank contract and he teased cashing in and challenging for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship several times. Ultimately Theory tried to cash in on Seth Rollins who was the United States Champion at the time, and he failed to win the belt when he cashed in.
However, Austin Theory has rebounded as he’s currently holding the United States Championship which he’s set to defend against John Cena at WrestleMania 39. The big title match was confirmed earlier this month when Theory came face to face with Cena on Raw. During their confrontation Cena took several shots at Theory, and Austin Theory addressed people saying he was buried during the promo while speaking on the After The Bell podcast.
“And it’s kind of funny, that scenario kind of relates to what just happened with John Cena, you know, everybody online is like, you’re buried, you’re done, you’re finished. I’m like, You guys are idiots, you really are. I mean, yes, John Cena needs to say everything he can, because he’s gonna go back to Hollywood until WrestleMania and go put his skirt and heels on. So, you know, that’s why he has to say all those mean things, he’s got to say everything he can. And I’m sure he thought about that for a really long time. I mean, he did say he’s been watching me for a long time, didn’t he?”
