Survivor Series aired live from Vancouver over the weekend and the show featured three title matches. Shinsuke Nakamura defeated LA Knight to become the new United States Champion, Bron Breakker successfully defended his Intercontinental Championship against Sheamus and Ludwig Kaiser, and Gunther went on to retain his WWE World Heavyweight Championship when he defeated Damian Priest.
During the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match Finn Balor appeared and hit Damian Priest with the Coup De Grace while the referee wasn’t looking.
Gunther made it clear that he wasn’t happy about the interference when he took Finn Balor down with a big boot. Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE appears to be planting the seeds for a potential Gunther babyface turn.
Whether or not WWE will be moving forward with a face turn for Gunther in the near future is unclear, but now that he’s done with Damian Priest it appears he needs a new challenger, so it will be interesting to see who steps up next.
