For decades Vince McMahon had the final say when it came to WWE creative, but things have changed a lot over the last few years. Triple H has been in charge of WWE creative since July of 2022, and there are several names who have benefitted from the regime change including LA Knight.
When LA Knight was called up to the main roster his name was changed to Max Dupri and he was used as a manager for Maximum Male Models. It was clear that the role wasn’t a good fit for LA Knight who recently explained to Chris Van Vliet that he thought he was going to get fired.
“(Vince McMahon) had a vision for this thing that put such a microscope on it and I didn’t know what the hell it was…and it just wasn’t going well. I was very unhappy and I’m sure he probably was and then at some point it was just like all of a sudden I’m not on TV and I’m like, well, I’m pretty sure I’m fired. I’m pretty sure this whole ride is over.”
Things have turned around drastically for LA Knight as he’s been featured as one of the top stars on the SmackDown brand for some time now. Knight will challenge for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble later this month when he faces Roman Reigns, Randy Orton and AJ Styles in a fatal four way match.
