Matt Riddle officially joined the WWE main roster earlier this year when he was called up to Friday Night SmackDown, and the former NXT star was recently moved to Monday Night Raw in the 2020 WWE Draft.
Vince McMahon has a history of shortening the names of WWE Superstars, and PWInsider reports that the decision was made on Thursday to change Matt Riddle’s name simply to Riddle.
Riddle reacted to the change when he posted the following:
People it’s okay I’ve been called Riddle most my life, I actually prefer it and it’s my real last name 🤙 #bro #stallion #RIDDLE

Fightful Select reports that Vince McMahon was fired up about Matt Riddle’s match against Sheamus on Raw this week. It’s being said that Vince McMahon made the call to change his name, and a pitched a more serious character for Riddle, and Matt was supportive of the idea.
