This week’s episode of Monday Night Raw focused on the fallout from the Royal Rumble and CM Punk made his way down to the ring for a promo shortly after the show kicked off.
During his promo CM Punk revealed that he suffered an injury during the Royal Rumble and he will be forced to miss WrestleMania because he’s sidelined. Drew McIntyre interrupted CM Punk’s promo and he seemingly set up a future match with The Second City Saint when he stomped on Punk’s injured arm.
Dave Meltzer talked about the segment on Wrestling Observer Radio and noted that Drew McIntyre still has not signed a new contract with WWE. His current deal reportedly expires in April. It’s not a given that Drew McIntyre will be parting ways with WWE, but a new deal hasn’t been signed yet.
“I would say September is a reasonable return (for Punk). Which was interesting, really interesting, because they set up the big angle with Drew McIntyre tonight to be his opponent when he returns, and Drew McIntyre’s not under contract past April. And that has not changed. Which really surprised me.”
One way or another it will be interesting to see how things play out for Drew in the weeks to come. It’s been reported that WWE is making major changes to the WrestleMania card and you can get more on that here.
