There was a lot of anticipation heading into the AEW All In main event last month as Bryan Danielson put his career on the line when he challenged Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship.
Ultimately Bryan defeated Swerve to win the AEW World Championship, but he made a major announcement following his big win. Bryan appeared on Dynamite and told the fans that he won’t be retiring with the belt. However, he also announced that when he drops the belt it will be the end of his full-time career.
Originally Darby Allin was set to challenge Bryan for the belt at AEW Grand Slam later this month, but that match was changed this week on Dynamite when Jon Moxley challenged Darby Allin to put his title shot on the line at the event, and Darby agreed.
Dave Meltzer recently discussed the original plan for Darby Allin on Wrestling Observer Radio and he claimed that at one point Allin was set to defeat Bryan Danielson and win the AEW World Championship.
“The winner between Moxley and Darby is going to wrestle Danielson for the title in Tacoma [WrestleDream]. Darby was at one point winning that match and he’s from the area essentially. Seattle. However, the money match right now is very clearly Moxley.”
Nigel McGuinness made his big return to the ring at AEW All In and it was confirmed this week on Dynamite that Bryan Danielson will be wrestling McGuinness at AEW Grand Slam on September 25th.
Stay tuned for updates.
