Following CM Punk’s match with Samoa Joe at All In it was reported that Punk was involved in a backstage altercation before he made his way out into Wembley Stadium. Tony Khan later informed that world that CM Punk’s AEW contract had been terminated, and he gave a speech where he addressed the backstage altercation while claiming that he feared for his life.
Since then Tony Khan hasn’t said much about the altercation, but he was pressed for answers during a recent appearance on the Dan LeBatard Show. After being asked directly about the incident Khan avoided the question by promoting Dynamite instead. When the hosts continued to apply pressure he said that it was a challenging day.
“What happened back there was a really hard day for a lot of people, and I don’t want to make light of it. It was a really challenging circumstance. It was one of the most incredible things I’ve been through in wrestling. It was a really hard day at the office for a lot of people. The amazing thing is that we still came through and put a great show out under really challenging circumstances.
The hosts continued to taunt Tony Khan for giving a direct answer to which he replied, “Not talking about these things would be the least of a wrestling promoter’s misdeeds.”
One of the hosts then directly asked Tony Khan if he really did fear for his life during the altercation, or if he words were meant to be performative.
“Without a doubt. 100% yes. Yeah I was scared as h**l for a moment there,” Tony Khan said.
