Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano went into NXT TakeOver: New Orleans as two guys who sincerely hated each other after their brotherly bond was destroyed. Their match was unsanctioned and with good reason because WWE officials didn’t want either man’s blood on their hands. In the end, the two former #DIY teammates left it all in the ring as Johnny Gargano finally defeated his arch nemesis.
When the reviews for NXT TakeOver: New Orleans came out the main event match received the much sought-after 5-star rating from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and it was well deserved. But if you thought receiving this amazing honor for his efforts in NOLA would soften Tommaso Ciampa then you would be mistaken.
Since his amazing match against Johnny Gargano, plenty of people have reached out to Tommaso Ciampa and asked him to speak about his fantastic contest but they have all received the same reply. In the spirit of an old-school heel, Ciampa is refusing to be patronized by an adoring public and/or drop the permanent scowl on his face.
The Sicilian Psychopath recently tweeted out his response to anyone congratulating him for his accomplishment. He’s still playing up the heel heat extremely well even on social media as he equated this kind of attention to something quite meaningless.
“Understand something: Praise from a bunch of people who do not possess the grit it requires to walk one single step in my boots means absolutely nothing to me. It’s equivalent to lint or a bottle cap” Ciampa said in this bold public statement.
So if you were getting together a big package to send Tommaso full of balloons and a card with a heartfelt handwritten message about how proud you are of everything he’s been able to accomplish you can save it. Because Tommaso doesn’t want your praise and odds are you sent it to him you might get a box full of something else from the Blackheart in return.
