When the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament took place about a year ago plenty of people were excited and we covered it extensively on Still Real To Us. In the end, Tyler Bate emerged victoriously and carried the WWE UK Title with pride until finally losing his championship to Pete Dunne at NXT TakeOver: Chicago in what would go on to claim Match Of The Year during the NXT Year-End Awards.
But since then, Tyler Bate hasn’t been highlighted like some might have expected and fans have certainly noticed an unfortunate trend when he does show up on television. In the last week, Tyler Bate has lost multiple matches in WWE and Dave Meltzer discussed this fact and how there could be some backstage heat on him during a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.
“Tyler Bate lost 4 matches this week. He went 0 and 4. He went from being the big guy that they were grooming for the UK for the future and he has fallen out of favor.” He continued, “He lost the title to Pete Dunne [and] there was a situation where they had a tour. They, at the last minute, wanted to book him on a main roster tour I think. This was a long time ago but this was right before they put Pete Dunne over him. They called [Bate] late and he had made other plans and that’s what happened.”
In case you’re keeping score, Tyler Bate lost to Roderick Strong and Velveteen Dream at the NXT television taping, he was also defeated by TJP on 205 Live in the Cruiserweight Championship Tournament.
If there is some backstage heat on this talented young Superstar hopefully, he’ll have time to turn things around. After all, he has a bright future ahead of him if he keeps it up. But something certainly needs to change when it comes to picking up wins if he has any hopes of reclaiming his WWE United Kingdom Championship or any other title for that matter.
