For years The Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak was one of the biggest attractions for WWE’s Show of Shows. Taker managed to pick up 21 victories on the Grandest Stage of Them All before he was eventually defeated by Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30. The decision to end The Undertaker’s streak was controversial among fans, and it sounds like there were also a number of people in WWE who weren’t thrilled that the streak was broken.
The Undertaker recently talked about the streak on his Six Feet Under podcast and he noted that it started to become special among people on the roster shortly after WrestleMania 18.
“Shortly after the [Ric] Flair match [at Wrestlemania 18], that’s when the streak really came alive. It really became special. There were guys that will tell you, and there’s still guys that would tell you like, ‘I don’t care if I’m the main event or not. I want the streak.’”
The Hall of Famer also explained that people in WWE weren’t happy about the decision to end the streak when he added, “They were like, ‘Man, The Streak shouldn’t have been broke.’ That’s the business. I don’t have any decision in that but a lot of the boys that were part of making that streak something, making it mean what it meant. They were like ‘Damn man, why are you taking away? Why are you taking away such a vital part of WrestleMania?’ It was like ‘This is as important as a title match.'”
