the undertaker

Earlier this year The Undertaker faced off against AJ Styles in the first ever Boneyard Match at WrestleMania 36, and The Deadman picked up the win in the cinematic bout.

Following the event there was a lot of talk among the wrestling community about cinematic matches extending Taker’s career, but he later indicated that he’s now retired.

The former WWE Champion spoke to the New York Post about the match, and he said that he felt the cinematic presentation was “cheating” because it masks his physical limitations.

“It really doesn’t appeal to me because basically what it is, is working around my limitations,” he said. “It’s capitalizing on some of my ability and some of my creative ability to tell a story but basically it’s trying to mask some of the lack of my physical abilities at this point.”

The Undertaker also noted that he knew he was done while he was filming the Boneyard Match, and he reaffirmed that he has no plans to return to the ring.

“I realized I have taken every physical gift, tool that I have and have used it up. There’s no water left in the sponge, if I can use that analogy. I’ve rung everything I could get out of that sponge.”
