Recently there’s been a lot of talk about fake retirement speeches as AJ Styles delivered one on Friday Night SmackDown a few weeks ago. Many people compared AJ’s speech to Mark Henry’s fake retirement speech which is a promo that fans still talk about to this day.
The Undertaker talked a little bit about Mark Henry’s fake retirement promo on the latest episode of Six Feet Under, and he admitted that he bought into the speech.
“Mark’s was probably the greatest promo ever. By far Mark’s greatest promo, but it’s up there, all-time. I mean, I remember when he did it — like, I hadn’t spoken a lot to Mark. And Mark was getting up there, too. And I was like, s***, this is it, man.’ I bought it. I bit the hook, man.”
Following the promo Mark Henry went on to challenge John Cena for the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank, and John Cena retained the title. Over the years the decision to have Cena beat Henry has been heavily criticized, but Mark Henry recently revealed why things played out that way and you can get more on that here.
